One of the favorite past times of central Texas residents is tubing along the multitude of rivers in the area. One of our favorite hill country destination is the Frio River.

Concan is a small town nestled along the banks of the Frio River and offers cabin rentals, RV stations, camp grounds, hill country real estate, and of course access to tubing, rafting, and kayaking in the Frio River.

The Frio River flows almost 50 miles from the Texas hill country into a valley where Concan is located. It continues to flow through the valley prior to going underground to the south of Concan, where it flows into the Balcones Fault.

Access to the Frio also can be found in nearby Leakey, Texas as well as Garner State Park. Numerous outfitters provide affordable tube rentals, as well as kayaks and river rafts. Some offer guided tours.

Both Concan and Leakey offer local eateries as well. Nothing like a good, greasy cheeseburger after a day of tubing down the Frio, at least that is my opinion. The House Pastures Cattle Co. Restaurant in Concan is a local favorite. In addition to eating a great meal you will also be able to enjoy live music every night in the summer.

The Concan and Leakey areas are located approximately 140 miles from Austin, so plan to leave early, and if you aren’t going to enjoy a local cabin or camp site rental, plan on getting back late. Fill up your tank before you leave to avoid unnecessary stops along the way – after all, you’ve got places to be and things to see along the river!

A search on Google or Bing for something like "Frio River Tubing" offers up plenty of relevant results to help you plan your outing. So come on down, spend a day, spend a week, and have a great, relaxing time amongst the beauty of the Texas hill country.
